About

Nick shoots people. In landscapes, homes - modest and palatial, private places, schools, hospices and hospitals.

He has a fascination with faces, the smooth unlined faces of children and the lined faces of their Grandparents.

The infinite colours of skin, hair and eyes.

Relationships, between friends, between families, between strangers, models on a shoot, are his obsession.

The body language, the mime that happens in a still image is key to telling the story.

He uses light and it’s interplay with form and texture to give the picture depth and colour.

He loves the sunlight of summer, the sparkling on water, vivid green saturation through leaves and grass.

Behind all this , quietly in the background, is the preparation, the organization, the post-production and his reputation.

He is now using these same fascinations in his moving images.

He grew up in Zambia and South Africa and has a BA in Graphic Design from Central St Martins College, London.

Nivea/Life Agency

The shoot began in March, the first City chosen, Birmingham. The final city Cardiff on 13th April.

The brief : to photograph "closeness" in "real relationships". In other words, we would streetcast real people where we could find them and shoot them having first had a Q&A session to discover their relationship and record contact details. Five cities were chosen, Birmingham, Brighton, Cardiff, London and Edinburgh.

The team: a big thank you to: Colin Hoskins, Assistant. Deanne Lewis, talent scout. Ellie Tobin Hair and make-up. Leela Axon, amin and production. Louise Almond. AD for Life Agency. Production LPA, client support Laura Gibson, Life Agency.

The weather ? Cold and wet, in almost every location. Shorts were soon replaced by heavy duty outdoor trekking pants.

The models? An inspiration in every way, looking back still makes us all smile.
